A Huntsville man is facing the death penalty for a 2023 shooting. Tye'Deshun Stevens , 23, is accused of killing D’Asia Morris and Sequoiya Lamar at a house off Bonnell Drive.

Stevens' capital murder trial is scheduled for August 17th, 2026. The state plans to pursue the death penalty due to the violent nature of the crime, said Madison County Assistant District Attorney Emily Carroll.

"We don’t have to seek the death penalty in every case, but because of the nature and the circumstances in this case, it was a very violent killing of two individuals together," Carroll said, "it’s recorded on a video that’s incredibly graphic. It is just a very heinous way to kill people and for those reasons we are seeking the death penalty."
