CROWN POINT — A 9-year-old child who died from a gunshot wound Saturday evening was shot by his sibling who believed the firearm was fake, according to court documents.

Multiple criminal charges were filed Tuesday afternoon against Raymon Bell, 35, of Gary, in connection with the death of Adrian Brown. Bell, who is Brown's mother's boyfriend, was charged with neglect of a dependent resulting in death, neglect of a dependent resulting in serious bodily injury, unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon, reckless homicide, neglect of a dependent and obstruction of justice, according to a news release from the Lake County Prosecutor's Office. Brown's death was ruled a homicide, according to the Lake County Coroner's Office.
