GRAND JUNCTION Colo. (KREX)- More than 200 students from across the Grand Valley arrived at the Mesa County Fairgrounds on Tuesday for “Built for the Future Day,” an event designed to give students hands-on experience in construction and the trades.

Students rotated through more than 20 interactive stations, where they learned everything from building beds to managing a mock highway closure. The goal was to give students a real-world look at careers that are in high demand.

“We've got them moving cones, we've got them using the equipment – just basically giving them a good hands-on idea of what a normal maintenance day looks like,” said Chuck Marsh, regional communications manager for the Colorado Department of Transportation.
