ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - Travelers at airports from Burbank to Nashville to Chicago O’Hare faced growing delays this week as the federal government shutdown led to air traffic controller shortages Monday and Tuesday.

The FAA says reduced staffing is slowing operations at multiple towers across the country, and in some cases, closing them altogether.

Officials confirmed the control tower at Hollywood Burbank Airport was forced to shut down temporarily Monday, leaving pilots to coordinate directly with each other.
