Kyle Connor is getting close to staying with the Winnipeg Jets for the long haul.

Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported Tuesday that Connor and the Jets have made progress on a long-term contract extension and he expects the AAV to be in the $12-milllion range.

Both sides are working to get the deal done before the Jets open their season against the Dallas Stars on Thursday, Friedman added.

Connor, 28, is eligible to become an unrestricted free agent next summer after the final year of his seven-year, $50-million deal.

The Michigan native had a career-best 97 points (41 goals and 56 assists) in 82 games last season for the Presidents’ Trophy-winning Jets.

Picked 17th overall by the Jets in 2015, Connor has 582 points (284 goals and 298 assists) in 613 career games with the Jets.
