SHREVEPORT, La. -- A night of fun and getting to know neighbors took a tragic turn Tuesday night when a teenager was killed as gunshots were fired during a National Night Out event in a Shreveport neighborhood.
Shreveport police said the teenage male died at the scene. His age was not immediately available.
No other injuries have been reported.
The shooting took place around 7:20 p.m. at AB Palmer Park located at East 79th Street and Thornhill Avenue. Just before shots rang out, the park was filled with people participating in a NNO gathering.
At one point, 17 officers were on the scene. The entire park was taped off and officers were concentrating their search for evidence around the playground area on the East 80th Street side of the park.
