Tuesday, the world marked two years since Hamas launched a deadly surprise attack on parts of Israel on Oct. 7, 2023, that killed more than 1,200 people.

Hamas also took 251 people hostage, including American citizens. Dozens have yet to be returned, and many have died.

The death toll in the Gaza Strip in the wake of Israel's response to the attack has risen to 67,139, according to the Hamas-run Gaza Ministry of Health.
