HILO, Hawaii (Island News) – A Puna man was indicted by a Hilo grand jury on negligent homicide and driving under the influence charges related to a fatal collision that occurred in May of this year.
The collision caused the death of Maxwell Robertson Sherwood on May 16, 2025, at the intersection of 36 Ave and Orchidland Drive in Puna.
Dallas Brooks, 30, was in custody on a $100,000 indictment warrant and made his first appearance in the Hilo Circuit Court on Monday afternoon.
Despite objections from prosecutors, Brooks' defense counsel's request for supervised release was granted by the Court. A hearing for further proceedings has been scheduled for January 21, 2026.
