HONOLULU (Island News) – A man was arrested in Waikiki after an apparent assault on police officers occurred on Tuesday morning.

According to the Honolulu Police Department (HPD), officers responded to a report of a man damaging an abandoned building around 6:25 a.m.

Upon arrival, officers attempted to detain the 65-year-old man, who then allegedly assaulted three officers and bit one of them in the process.

Officers then deployed OC spray and were able to take the 65-year-old man into custody.

One officer was treated and taken to a hospital while the other two were treated at the scene. Details regarding the officer’s condition were not released.

Charges will be sought with the Department of the Prosecuting Attorney.
