A Brantford city councillor is “thrilled” with plans to build a covered outdoor ice rink at a city park.

Ward 4 Coun. Linda Hunt said the proposal, spearheaded by Free Sport for Growth, will bring back to life Conklin Park, a site she enjoyed as a youngster 40 to 50 years ago.

“I grew up on Campbell Street and spent a lot of time at Conklin Park,” Hunt said at a Tuesday city council committee-of-the-whole meeting. “It was a vibrant park and was enjoyed by a lot of kids who now, as adults are very excited to hear something new is going in there.

“The park has been deserted, the playground equipment has been decommissioned and it’s really now just a vacant piece of land.”

Hunt said she’s “thrilled” that Free Sport for Growth chose Conklin Park for the project.
