The First Amendment states: “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble and to petition then Government for a redress of grievances.”
Apparently, the Trump administration thinks they found a loophole. Maybe Congress can’t make any laws abridging the freedom of speech, but they can.
Attorney General Pam Bondi said, “There is free speech, then there is hate speech.” No, Pam, the First Amendment doesn’t make such a distinction. There is free speech you may find objectionable, but you do not have the right to tag it with the label “hate speech” and make it against the law.
