SHELBY CO., Ala. ( WBRC ) - The Shelby County Sheriff is responding to concerns about child predators.

He posted on Facebook : “I had someone in the community recently comment to me that there seems to be a lot of arrests going on in Shelby County involving child predators and the dissemination of innocent images. My response is “Yes, there are. And if we need to expand the Shelby County Jail to make more room for these offenders, then so be it!”

These predators hide behind their devices, which is why the sheriff’s office created a computer forensics lab is building a dedicated team to pursue these offenders.

“You don’t want to see any of that mess, it’s very gross,” said Sheriff John Samaniego. “It’s despicable.”
