WASHINGTON - The U.S. Senate on Tuesday voted 51 to 47 to confirm David Toepfer as U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio, ending the district’s longest-ever stretch without a Senate-confirmed federal prosecutor.

Toepfer was among more than 100 Trump administration nominees confirmed in a single vote under new Senate rules that allow multiple lower-level nominees to be approved at once. The bulk confirmation came shortly after Senate Republicans changed the chamber’s rules over Democratic objections to speed up the confirmation process.

The career prosecutor will lead the Cleveland-based U.S. attorney’s office, which covers 40 counties in northern Ohio. Toepfer has served in the role since July, when U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi appointed him on a temporary basis.
