Two days after a 71-year-old lawyer allegedly hurled a shoe at Chief Justice of India B R Gavai inside the Supreme Court, former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal Wednesday said the incident and subsequent online threats and abuse directed at the CJI appeared to be part of a “pre-planned and systematic attempt to browbeat the judiciary”.
“Justice Gavai decided to leave the matter and not act against the person who tried to throw a shoe at him. This is indeed his greatness. However, the whole incident has sent a chilling message to the entire judiciary — that if anyone can get away with throwing a shoe at the CJI, then what to talk of other judges.
