U.S. Rep. Max Miller graduated from Shaker Heights High School in 2007 – a year ahead of me. As catcher for the baseball team, he handled my now-husband’s fastballs for three seasons. I experienced high school alongside Max and I know how fortunate he was to attend a school with challenging courses, enriching extracurricular activities, and caring, committed educators.

Now that Max is Congressman Miller, he’s in a unique position to stand up for the school that shaped him – and ensure other Ohio students receive the same types of opportunities. Recently, a group of Shaker parents picked up our kids from school and visited Miller’s Parma field office. We brought Shaker Heights T-shirts and a ballcap. We had hoped to inspire him to vote against cuts to public education in the federal budget
