WARWICK, R.I. (WPRI) — Police in Warwick have released bodycam footage of their interaction with a driver accused of striking a 5-year-old boy last week.
Police said the child was lying face down on a skateboard when he was struck by a pickup truck on Boylston Street.
The driver, identified as an off-duty employee of the Rhode Island State Police, initially left the scene but returned a short time later.
In the newly released footage, the man, whose face is blurred, looks visibly distraught.
"What happened? Is everyone OK?" the man said with his hands on his head.
When officers told the man he hit a child, he asked "Who's kid is it?" and started pacing and leaning on his truck.
"You're not being charged with anything. We're just doing this investigation. We want to get your side of w
