PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Six people were forced from their home Tuesday night after a fire broke out in Providence.

Crews were called to the scene on Alvin Street around 9 p.m.

Fire officials say a man and his dog were home at the time but made it out safely. No injuries were reported.

The home has extensive smoke damage and the battalion chief believes the fire started in the basement.

The incident remains under investigation.
