A skint Scots teacher has told how she has been forced to take on a second job at McDonald's in order to make ends meet. ‌

The teacher, who works at a secondary school, said she was taking on extra shifts at the popular fast-food chain to supplement her income amid the cost of living crisis. She is among scores of other members of classroom staff to take on second roles in the last year. ‌

In a survey conducted by teaching union NASUWT , staff told how they were working round the clock in restaurants, bars and shops. Others were taking on employment as counsellors and delivery drivers alongside tutoring and exam marking. ‌

One teacher said: “I’m a shift manager at McDonalds.”

Another said : “I do weekend work in retail.”
