HENDERSON, Ky (WEHT) - The scheduled execution of Roy Lee Ward has no more potential hurdles.
Ward and his team filed federal appeals that tried to delay his execution. This effectively guarantees Ward's execution will be carried out sometime after midnight and before sunrise at Indiana State Prison in Michigan City.
This comes after numerous challenges from Ward and his defense team, including a clemency hearing by the Indiana Parole Board. After listening to both sides, the board recommended denying clemency. Indiana Governor Mike Braun later denied said clemency.
Ward was sentenced to death following the 2001 rape and murder of Spencer County teen Stacy Payne.
