HENDERSON, Ky (WEHT) - The execution of convicted killer Roy Lee Ward is now a day away.

With Indiana Governor Mike Braun stating he won't stand in the way, Ward has dropped two federal lawsuits, which could have delayed the sentence from being carried out.

The execution is set to take place before sunrise Friday. Ward was sentenced to death for the 2001 rape and murder of Spencer County teen Stacy Payne.

The only way Ward avoids dying now is for the U.S. Supreme Court to step in and issue a stay of execution, but that is considered highly unlikely.
