CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- A man has been sentenced for allegedly kidnapping and sexually assaulting his ex-girlfriend, according to the district attorney's office.

Laquell Thames, 29, was sentenced to 240-348 months (20-29 years) in prison for first-degree rape. For the other charges he was found guilty of- assault by strangulation, misdemeanor breaking or entering, and communicating threats- he was sentenced to a consecutive sentence of 6-17 months in prison. Thames must also register as a sex offender for the rest of his life, officials said.

On June 16, 2021, the victim met with Thames to tell him that their relationship was over. According to documents, they were dating on and off for several years.
