COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) - The driver in a Columbus high-speed crash has ties to Fort Benning, according to Fort Benning officials.

The Fort Benning Public Affairs confirmed that Clifford Castillo is an Army soldier assigned to the military base. Castillo is accused of traveling 100 mph in a Corvette as he fled from sheriff deputies on Saturday, eventually crashing into a wooded area near South Lumpkin Road , where the car burst into flames.

Castillo faces 20 charges:

Willful Obstruction of Law Enforcement Officers

Fleeing or Attempting to Elude a Police Officer

Speeding

Reckless Driving

Operating w/out Lights Required by Law

Too Fast for Condition Prima Facie Speed/Basic Rules

Aggressive Driving

Failure to Maintain Lane

Failure to Signal Lane change or Turn

Improper Lane Chang
