ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Passwords have been used to protect information online since the dawn of the internet. However, passwords remain vulnerable because they can be weak, stolen, shared and forgotten.

Rochester Institute of Technology cybersecurity principal lecturer Jonathan S. Weissman says traditional passwords may soon be replaced by something much safer — passkeys. He explained that instead of typing in a password, users will be able to log in using their face, fingerprint, or phone PIN, making it harder for hackers to gain access.
