ROSCOMMON COUNTY, Mich. (WILX) - The Benzie Road Fire near Houghton Lake in Roscommon County has been contained, according to the Michigan Department of Natural Resources.

On Wednesday, fire crews continued dousing remaining hot spots.

The fire was first reported early Sunday afternoon, east of Old U.S. Highway 27 near the Clare-Roscommon county line.

It burned through a marshy area with mixed conifer and hardwood forest.

Crews responding to the fire included Michigan Department of Natural Resources firefighters, local fire departments, bulldozers, fire engines, and drone aircraft for aerial support.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
