Amtrak has finalized a lease to return its Grand Junction station to the historic Union Depot once restoration of the building is complete.

Union Depot co-owner Dustin Anzures said returning the station to the historic building would bring stability to the project and add the sentimental value of having trains returning to the more than a century old building.

“For us personally, we just couldn’t imagine restoring the (Union Depot) and not becoming a train station again, especially when we have the opportunity to do it,” Anzures said. “So many cities are spending tens or hundreds of millions of dollars trying to get Amtrak to come back because they left already. Here we are, we have Amtrak.”
