HAWKINS COUNTY, Tenn. (WJHL) — The Hawkins County Sheriff's Office is investigating a fatal shooting that took place early Wednesday.

According to a release from the sheriff's office, the shooting was reported in the New Canton community during the early morning hours.

"Upon arrival, deputies discovered one male victim who was found deceased at the scene," the release states. An investigation led to one person of interest being identified, and the sheriff's office said it is actively working to locate that person.

"This appears to be an isolated incident," the release states. "The safety of the public remains our top priority, and at this time, there is no indication of any ongoing threat to the community."
