The state Department of Transportation is planning to incorporate a “flex lane” on Interstate 84 and the Route 7 corridor in Danbury where drivers would be able to drive on the shoulder of the road during peak travel times.

The idea is to address congestion and mobility by essentially adding another travel line at heavy travel times.

The department posted a video to show how it would work.

A sign with a green arrow would show that the flex lane is open, a red x shows that it is closed while a yellow x would show that the lane is ending soon and drivers should move over.
