An investigation is underway after police located human remains inside of a large container in the backyard of an abandoned property in New Britain on Wednesday.

Officers responded to the area of 80 Clark St. around 1 p.m. to investigate a report of suspicious behavior.

During a check of the property, police said they found a large container in the backyard along the fence line.

When officers opened the container, they found what appeared to be human remains inside.

The Connecticut State Police Central District Major Crimes Unit responded to the scene. Detectives are working with the State's Attorney's Office and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, too.
