AVONDALE, AZ (AZFamily) — A man has learned his fate for assaulting his ex-girlfriend and a young girl in Avondale.

Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell announced that Brandon Ramos Valenzuela, 26, was sentenced to just under nine years in prison for the attack in 2023. Valenzuela will also be under lifetime supervised probation once released from prison.

In Oct. 2023, an 11-year-old girl called police for help at a home near Van Buren Street and Dysart Road . Authorities said the girl woke up and heard Valenzuela yelling at her mother. When the girl tried to get help, police say Valenzuela covered her face, making it hard to breathe. He then let the girl go and fled the scene as she called 911.
