DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches from the Scovill Zoo visited the WAND news studio on October 8.

The creepy crawlies made their on-air debut for the month of October in honor of Halloween.

The help clean up dead vegetation on the ground and get the name "hissing" because they expel air quickly to ward off predators.

The Scovill Zoo is open from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday-Friday, and 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.
