ST. LOUIS — A man poured liquid from a gas can onto a St. Louis police surveillance camera late last month and lit it on fire, according to charges filed Wednesday.

Taurus Welch, 30, is facing two felonies after prosecutors say he damaged one of the police SkyCop mobile surveillance systems a few blocks away from his home in the city's Walnut Park East neighborhood.

Police say Welch and another person approached the camera at Genevieve and West Florissant avenues on Sept. 26. The other person poured liquid on it. Welch then ignited a fire, charges say.

The other person walked away, but Welch then poured more liquid on the camera from a large gas can, creating a bigger fire, charges say.

Welch was charged with knowingly burning or exploding an object and first-degree property damage. A
