SCOTTVILLE – It’s hard to say if the Mason County Central football team would have won last week’s game at Hart.

But, considering how close the Spartans came, with a 40-yard fumble recovery getting them within three points in the fourth quarter, it certainly is conceivable.

Mental mistakes betrayed the Spartans in what was otherwise an impressive performance on the road.

Especially penalties, and particularly of the pre-snap variety that the Spartans need to eliminate, at least as much as possible, in Friday night’s game at Hesperia.

“We’re continuing to hurt ourselves, especially pre-snap penalties on offense which has been a problem the last two or three weeks,” Spartan head coach David Smith said. “We’re trying to clean up, and get better in that aspect.
