LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - The University of Michigan Health- Sparrow officially opened its doors to its new pharmacy in downtown Lansing.
After Rite Aid filed for bankruptcy and closed all of its remaining stores nationwide, the closures left some communities without easy access to a pharmacy.
To combat this issue, officials at the UM Health decided to buy the vacant Rite Aid next to their emergency room and transform it into a multi-purpose pharmacy.
“It’s a one-stop shop for many essential services in the Lansing community,” said UM Hospital Network Regional President Margaret Dimond.
Dimond says Rite Aid’s closing in Michigan left the state’s capital as a pharmacy desert.
“This store actually filled almost 100,000 scripts for the community per year,” said Dimond. “So, we could not, n
