LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - Prioritizing pedestrian safety is the goal for the Lansing Police Department during October.
October is National Pedestrian Safety Month, and Lansing Police and the Office of Highway Safety Planning are teaming up to raise awareness by educating the public on how they can stay safe.
So far this year, there have been more than 40 crashes involving cars, pedestrians and bicyclists, police told News 10.
“When you’re in the city, to use the sidewalks when the sidewalk gets provided. That way you’re not in the roadway, and it increases your chances of not being struck accidentally by a vehicle. As a pedestrian, it’s good to always wear high-vis clothing,” said Lansing Police Sergeant Randall Hon.
