AVON, Maine — Over a dozen dogs and cats were killed in an Avon house fire Tuesday night.

The Phillips Fire Department responded to a fire around 9:30 p.m. at a log cabin at 461 Square Mile Road, according to a news release from the Maine Department of Public Safety. The log cabin was reportedly destroyed in the fire.

Four cats and 11 dogs were inside the cabin at the time of the fire. Officials said none of the animals survived.

The homeowners were not home, and no one was injured, according to the release.

Investigators from the Office of State Fire Marshal were called to the scene. However, due to the magnitude of the damage, investigators were unable to determine the cause of the fire.
