SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) - With what was supposed to be a safe, family-friendly night quickly turned deadly just after 7 p.m.

SPD responded to a shots fired call Tuesday (Oct. 7) at AB Palmer Park on East 79th Street. When police arrived, they found an 18-year-old male in critical condition.

Councilman Alan Jackson was at the event for National Night Out and says everything was normal before he heard gunshots.

“We’re laughing [and] joking, just having a good time. There were people outside barbecuing, and there were kids playing. And then suddenly, we heard gunshots rang out,” Councilman Jackson explained. “So I immediately, you know, walked outside to kind of see what was going on, and it was just a sea of people running.
