NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKYT) - This November will mark 10 years since Officer Daniel Ellis was ambushed and shot in the line of duty in Richmond. Ellis died two days later, but his legacy lives on through his cousin, Curb Recording artist Hannah Ellis, who is hosting a charity event in his honor.

Next week, the Kentucky native will hold the first annual Officer Down Golf Classic in Old Hickory, Tennessee, on Oct. 13 at Hermitage Golf Course. She’s also set to re-release her deeply personal song “Officer Down” in honor of all officers.

When Hannah Ellis released “Officer Down” in 2016, it was a year after she received a terrible phone call from her father about her cousin Daniel Ellis.

“It was a lot, wait, is this real? Is this a real thing that’s happening?” Hannah Ellis said.
