The B.C. government wants to sue the makers of e-cigarettes and vaping devices, to recover money for the healthcare system.
Attorney General Niki Sharma introduced legislation Wednesday to allow government to take vaping companies to court, the same way it has successfully sued the manufacturers of cigarettes and opioids.
Sharma said the government wants to hold the companies accountable for the health harms caused by their devices, including the practice of targeting youth with flavours and advertising involving social media influencers. Sharma said the companies are not transparent about the addictive properties of vaping, as well as the ingredients and nicotine content.
