STATEWIDE — As the world marks the second anniversary of the Hamas attack on Israel, Oct. 7, 2023, several New York elected officials have released statements in commemoration of the 1,200 people killed and approximately 250 taken hostage during a massive, multi-pronged assault on Israel, during the Jewish Sabbath and an autumn festival.
Fighters stormed the music festival, seized kibbutzim along the Gaza border, killing, maiming and abducting civilians, including Americans.
Several U.S. Congressmembers were in Israel at the time. Brooklyn Rep. Dan Goldman was attending a bar mitzvah scheduled for that day, and members of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, including Sen Corey Booker, D-NJ, were there for a summit.
