GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) - The government shutdown is causing problems for many people in North Carolina, especially those who rely on help to buy food.

One of the main programs at risk is WIC, which stands for the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children. It helps more than 260,000 people in North Carolina.

The Department of Health and Human Services said it will keep funding WIC and SNAP through the end of October. But after that, no one knows for sure what will happen.

Another attempt to end the shutdown failed, and many families are still waiting for answers.

Congressman Greg Murphy spoke with WITN about the situation. He said families who use WIC and SNAP, as well as military members and others, are being hurt by the political fight.
