JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WITN) - The Jacksonville/Onslow County Council for the Arts, located on New Bridge St, is set to mark its 50th anniversary next year.
Known to be a place where local residents gather to create art, bond with the community and attend events, it’s hoping to stay open for another 50 years.
“Everyone is accepting of the different art forms there is,” Paige Collins, one local resident said. “There is somebody working on crochet, there’s people painting, there’s sculpture. Everyone’s working on something completely different, yet we all come together every week and work together.”
But because it is a non-profit receiving limited funding, leaders are now working overtime to keep its doors open.
