COLUMBUS, Neb. (KOLN) - The Columbus Police Department arrested a man late Wednesday morning following a brief search that led to temporary precautionary lockdowns at nearby schools.

Officers were dispatched shortly after 11 a.m. to the area of 25th Avenue and 16th Street after receiving reports of a disturbance involving a man who had made threats and was believed to be armed with a knife.

Columbus Police Department requested schools in the vicinity to go into lockdown to ensure the safety of students and staff. The lockdowns remained in place only briefly while officers worked to locate the suspect.

Police said the suspect was quickly found and taken into custody without further incident and was brought to the Platte County Detention Center. Lockdowns were lifted once it was determine
