MONTPELIER, Vt. (ABC22/FOX44) - The area of Country Club Road, near the old Elks golf course, has become a popular spot for dog walkers in Montpelier, and some locals have also hunted nearby. Now that a children's center is leasing the clubhouse, concerns have been raised about safety.
The Montpelier City Council on Wednesday discussed how to balance recreation and safety. They eventually decided more information was needed, and chose to put off action until a later meeting.
The Elks golf club permanently closed in 2020. Since then, the clubhouse has been bought by the City of Montpelier, and earlier this year the Turtle Island Children's Center announced they would be leasing the clubhouse from the City.
With up to 40 young children now at the center, the popularity of the area for dog
