GREENVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - Some South Carolina truckers are feeling the weight of the state’s roads and it’s now impacting their wallets.
South Carolina gubernatorial candidate, Ralph Norman and several state representatives are now calling on lawmakers to act.
Norman said truck drivers are getting hit with more fines for using the very roads they pay to maintain through user fees and licensing costs.
“It’s not going to be ignored anymore,” Norman said, “If they can put a man on the moon, they can get out here and fix these roads.”
Around 750 state bridges currently have load restrictions, meaning heavy vehicles like cement mixers and 18-wheelers can’t use them.
This forces truck drivers like Stanley Clowney to find alternate routes that often aren’t safe for large trucks.
