BENNINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) - A woman is in the hospital tonight after a structure fire in Bennington.

The fire broke out at a residential building on Main Street just before 5:30 p.m.

It took about two hours for firefighters to get it under control; however, crews continue to battle the blaze.

First responders say a 65-year-old woman who lived there was injured while fleeing the fire. She was taken to Southwestern Vermont Medical Center for treatment.

No word on the extent of her injuries, but we are told they are non-life-threatening.

Police say Vermont Route 9 will remain closed for several hours as crews continue to work to fully extinguish the fire.
