Every step Phil Cole takes up Australia's highest mountain will, the Tamworth local hopes, be a step towards finding a cure for Parkinson's Disease.

Next month, the lifelong Rural Fire Service volunteer, along with Jenni and Dave Fergus, will lace up his hiking boots for Shake It Up's Snowy Mountains Step Up Trek.

It will be the second of the foundation's fundraising treks he has been a part of after doing the Great Ocean Walk last year.

Founded by businessman Clyde Campbell, who was diagnosed with Parkinson's when he was in his 40s, the charity's mission is to 'accelerate innovative research and treatments to slow, stop, and cure Parkinson's'.
