BRISTOL, Tenn. — Bristol Tennessee officials have approved a two-year moratorium on new data centers as they study how the facilities could affect the city.
The moratorium, approved unanimously by City Council on second and final reading Tuesday, follows a recommendation by the Bristol Planning Commission, which discussed the issue during its August 18 meeting.
Planning Director Cherith Young said the city’s zoning rules currently do not address data centers or similar facilities.
“The Planning Commission discussed and recommended a moratorium on data centers to the City Council,” Young said. “This will be for a two-year period while the Planning Commission continues to research and look at this emerging technology.”
