ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Unemployed workers in New York will see an increase in maximum weekly benefits.
Governor Hochul announced on Wednesday that the maximum unemployment insurance benefits will go from $504 to $869. This will start with payments issued next week. Employers will no longer receive IAS bills and are expected to save an average of $100 per employee next year.
This comes as the government shutdown caused thousands of federal employees to go without paychecks. These increases are expected for many, even if they are not currently receiving the highest rate.
