BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — A Gonzales man accused of stealing someone's check has been arrested.
According to the East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office, a woman reported that one of her personal checks was stolen from the mail and altered. The check was issued by BR Telco Federal Credit Union on March 18, 2024, and made payable to Liberty Bankers Insurance Group for $40,000.
It was discovered that the check was made out to "Marlishia Williams." The victim reported the fraud and found that the check had been deposited into a Navy Federal Credit Union account at an ATM under the name "Marlishia Williams."
