WAYNE, NJ — The New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs is warning licensed professionals about a new scam that targets applicants and licensees with fraudulent emails and attempts to install malicious software.
According to the Division, scammers are sending emails instructing recipients to download a “new license software” program. Clicking the link or following the instructions in the email can automatically download harmful software onto the user’s computer or device.
Officials emphasized that the Division of Consumer Affairs does not require or use any software downloads for license renewal or application processes. The Division will never request that licensees or applicants download any software to complete licensing requirements.
